Some cities only make sense from a saddle.
Which Amsterdam tour actually leaves the centre. Whether the Porto hills need a motor. What a morning on the Appian Way costs and how far you really pedal. Reviews of the cycling tours you can book, wherever you are going.
Four rides that explain what a good bike tour feels like.
A flat classic, a hill city with a motor, an ancient road and a desert loop. What each costs, and what the riders who took it say.

America is three different bike holidays wearing one flag.
A canyon loop on an assisted bike, a city morning between the bridges, or a rented hybrid and a park to yourself. What it costs to get on each one.

Lion City Bike Tour of Singapore
Ride through Singapore with a local guide such as Benny, Holden, James, Wyman, or JoJo on a four-hour small-group tour. You’ll pass Marina Bay, the F1 circuit, Chinatown, Little India, Haji Lane, and Kampong Glam, with frequent photo, drink, and snack stops. The route is mostly gentle, but you must be comfortable riding in city traffic and heat.

What an afternoon on two wheels actually costs.
Every ride on the site, grouped by price. A surprising number of the best ones come in under the cost of a taxi to the airport.
Rentals by the hour, three-hour city loops and the market rides that end in lunch you pay for yourself.
The full mornings: guided e-bike days, coastal runs, vineyard loops and anything with a boat in the middle.
How far, how hilly, and whether you want a motor.
Most guided rides are three hours and fifteen flat kilometres, which almost anyone can do. The numbers that change that are elevation and surface: a hill city, a gravel section or a full day out doubles the effort even though the distance barely moves. Helmets come with the bike nearly everywhere and are compulsory in Australia and New Zealand. Northern Europe rides April to October; Southeast Asia rides at dawn.
Three rides where the bicycle is just the transport.
A bike covers five times the ground of a walking tour and stops anywhere a car cannot. Some of the best days out use that to reach a cellar, a market stall or a temple gate rather than to cover distance.

The vineyard ride
Wine country is built at exactly bike scale: the estates sit five or six kilometres apart on quiet farm roads, which is a miserable drive and a perfect ride. Tuscany, the Douro, Mendoza and the Cape all run the same shape of day — three or four cellars, a long lunch, a van that takes the cases home. The one thing worth checking is who drives you back.

The market ride
Market rides start early because markets do. You cover four or five stops a walking tour could never reach in the time, eat standing up at each one, and end somewhere with chairs. Madrid, Valencia, Bangkok and Hanoi all run a version of it. Turn up genuinely hungry; the guide is not exaggerating.

The heritage ride
Ancient road networks make superb cycling for one accidental reason: they were built for feet and carts, so they are narrow, mostly flat and closed to traffic. The Appian Way outside Rome, the temple roads around Ayutthaya, the lanes behind Kyoto. You get the archaeology and an empty surface at the same time.
